BasiGo Rwanda has been awarded a RWF 300 million (USD 225 K) recoverable grant from Ireme Invest, the Rwanda Green Fund's green investment facility.

The financing will be used by BasiGo to upgrade its charging infrastructure needed to support its rapidly growing fleet of electric public transport buses in Kigali.

A charging station that supports at least 20 E-Buses in one night will be established.

BasiGo provides state-of-the-art electric buses along with charging and maintenance services for bus operators, making these vehicles affordable through a financing model that allows operators to pay for the battery and charge separately from the bus through a pay-as-you-go financing arrangement.

The buses are delivered through BasiGo’s pay-as-you-drive financing model, which enables bus operators to acquire electric buses without incurring the high upfront cost.

This strategic partnership aims to revolutionize public transportation in Rwanda by introducing environmentally friendly electric buses, reducing carbon emissions, and promoting sustainable urban mobility.

A Green Future for Public Transport

The Rwanda Green Fund, known for its commitment to environmental sustainability and climate resilience, has recognized BasiGo's innovative approach to transforming the public transport sector.

The financing will facilitate the deployment of a fleet of electric buses in Kigali and other major cities, addressing the pressing need for sustainable and efficient urban transportation solutions.

Addressing Urban Mobility Challenges

Rapid urbanization in Rwanda has led to increased traffic congestion and air pollution, necessitating urgent measures to enhance public transportation. BasiGo's electric buses present a viable solution to these challenges.

These buses are designed to offer a comfortable, reliable, and eco-friendly mode of transport, reducing the dependence on fossil fuels and mitigating the adverse environmental impacts associated with conventional diesel-powered buses.

Economic and Environmental Benefits

The introduction of electric buses is expected to yield numerous economic and environmental benefits.

By transitioning to electric mobility, Rwanda can reduce its carbon footprint, improve air quality, and decrease noise pollution in urban areas.

Additionally, the operation and maintenance of electric buses are cost-effective in the long term, offering significant savings on fuel and maintenance expenses.

Empowering Local Communities

BasiGo's initiative is also poised to create job opportunities and stimulate economic growth in Rwanda.

The company plans to collaborate with local partners for the assembly, maintenance, and operation of the electric buses, thereby fostering skill development and capacity building within the community.

Moreover, this project aligns with Rwanda's vision of becoming a regional hub for green technology and innovation.

As the continent grapples with the dual challenges of urbanization and climate change, the adoption of electric mobility solutions presents a promising pathway to sustainable development.

With continued support and investment, BasiGo aims to expand its footprint across Africa, driving the transition towards cleaner, greener public transportation systems.

In conclusion, BasiGo's securing of financing from the Rwanda Green Fund is a testament to the company's vision and dedication to transforming public transport through innovative and sustainable solutions.
